Description
PVA D4 Adhesive is a solvent-free industrial grade D4 wood adhesive based on the latest hybrid resin technology. D4 Wood Adhesive provides the user with a waterproof D4 grade wood adhesive with none of the safety issues associated with conventional isocyanate containing (polyurethane) D4 grades.
D4 Wood Adhesive can be used internally and externally and gives a high strength, water, impact and temperature resistant bond that is usually stronger than the wood itself. Ideal for all general woodworking and joinery uses, assembly line work, RF/HF cure systems, wood on wood laminating, furniture assembly and household DIY use. Dries clear. Easy water cleanup. Conforms to the international standards EN 204 (D4) and WATT 91. Independent test certification is available on request
What is a D4 PVA adhesive?
D4 refers to the durability class and PVA to the polymer base. There are 4 durability classes recognised for PVA woodworking adhesives. D1 and D2 are interior use only grades, D3 is classed as water resistant and D4 waterproof. PVA the base polymer is Polyvinyl acetate
Is a D4 PVA adhesive totally waterproof?
No, although classified as waterproof when used externally the exposed joints must be protected or sealed against the elements. If you need a totally waterproof adhesive, use a polyurethane based product such as Henkel Aquence PU 300N or Everbuild Polyurethane Wood Adhesives
What a D4 PVA adhesive used for?
D4 PVA adhesive is primarily formulate for woodworking applications: window manufacturing, flat lamination, furniture production and frame assembly, parquet flooring, door production, doweling, general joinery, bonding HPL/CPL, multi-layer bonding, block gluing of softwoods / chipboards / hardwood, veneering, carcase & solid wood bonding, and EDPM roofing.
Can I store D4 PVA adhesive outside?
No. Always store away from frost in tightly closed original containers between +5°C and +35°C. PVA shouldn’t be allowed to freeze because it separates the polymer, which makes the glue useless. Poor freeze thaw ability.
Is a PVA adhesive over paintable?
You can’t varnish over a PVA adhesive (wood adhesive), however you can paint over it.
PVA adhesive water soluble?
PVA adhesives are water soluble. You can add water to thick glue to create a thinner, less viscous one. It’s best to add water to the glue (not the other way around) a small amount at a time and stir it well, to make sure you don’t over-dilute. Diluted PVA can also be used as a high-performance sealer, primer, bonding agent and dust proofer. Products such as Henkel Aquence DL1040 or Everbuild D4 PVA adhesives are ready mixed one component products ready for use within woodworking applications.
Will a D4 PVA adhesive discolour?
D4 PVA adhesives are white, transparent after drying and offer product stability, improved adhesion on difficult wood species (oak and larch) and no discolouration of the glue line when pressing with heat. Good quality D4 PVA adhesives are neutral pH value and thus a much lower probability of discolouration.
Is there a formaldehyde free D4 PVA adhesive?
Yes/No, you can Help protect the environment by lowering hazardous formaldehyde emissions. Lowering hazardous formaldehyde emissions with Henkel Aquence KL071/2 D3 PVA adhesive. Although this is a D3 and classed as water resistant this grade can be upgraded to D4 water durability class, according to the standard EN 204, by adding 5% of the crosslinker AQUENCE Catalyst R.397.
